Katherine Isbister HCI Students and Internships As I learned last Summer, an internship can be a valuable part of an HCI education. Many students in the field will end up doing an internship (or coop or stage or industrial placement) by the time they've graduated. Some programs even require an internship during school. Yet, during my search last year, I didn't find much information about locating and choosing internships. This column is an attempt to distill both my own impressions and those of many others into some 'folklore' about internships for the benefit of both students and employers. In the spirit of good HCI research, I prepared for writing this column by gathering data (although informally) - I posted a plea for input to announcements.chi and students.chi.
