Different flow shops are characterized by different-often wildly different--preferences and constraints. While simple heuristics often permit efficient construction of excellent schedules, the discovery of such heuristics generally depends on deep managerial insight or on trial and error. Given a description of a flowshop, the SH program proposes and tries to solve scheduling problems in order to identify heuristics which are especially valuable to the problem at hand.
