U1 Faculty Guidelines in Computer-based Media in Fine Art and Design Proposal concerning guidelines for faculty in computer based media in fine art and design: February 17, 1994 Cynthia Beth Rubin, University of Vermont Annette Weintraub, City College of New York Dave Poindexter, Supercomputer Computations Research Institute his document is being presented to the College Art Association and SIGGRAPH education committee by concerned members working in computer based media, in response to typical c i r c u m s t a n c e s that faculty working within this area routinely encounter. These conditions need to be addressed in guidelines which are specific to the medium. Frequently, colleagues and administrators are unaware of many critical issues in this rapidly developing area and, as a result, individual faculty in this area are often isolated and have little documental support, making initial hiring interviews and subsequent performance reviews difficult for both the faculty and administrators. Anecdotal evidence from faculty teaching fine art and design courses in computer based media programs reveals a great discrepancy in the responsibilities of and expectations for faculty in this area as compared with colleagues in other studio art areas.
