ToolsforWorking Guidelines with EXPOSE An HCI-CounselingTool for User Interface Designers Peter Gorny EXPOSEis an expert system with the objective to support the user interface designer according to empirical knowledge from the application domain, to software-ergonomic (HCI-) knowledge comprised from experimental psychology and work psychology and, last but not least, to guidelines and style guides for user interfaces. The system does not support the (semi-) automated generation of interface code, but offers methods for the design procedure and hints for the design decisions on the basis of a preliminary work task and user analysis. solve the given tasks- on the basis of management and organizational knowledge and work psychology; the design of the dialog structure on the basis ofergonomic knowledge (structural dialog view); the choice of user interface objects according to cognitive psychology (concrete dialog view); the representation of user interface objects according to experimental psychological results, guidelines and style guides (realization view). As a result a prototype of the user interface is produced. Design Procedure with Expose As an example the design procedure for the conceptual view is presented in two steps: Step 1: The designer selects an object, which is to be designed, the related task (within
