We're here today to talk about people-oriented computer systems. Much of our work is concernea with evaluating and designing, or re-evaluating and re-designing, systems with which we are somewhat familiar. We also need to be looking ahead at new techniques, new methods, and new ways of using computers. First I want to discuss aspects of people-oriented systems, focusing on problem-solving. Secona, I will set up examples of problems that are difficult to solve with traditional techniques. Third, I will suggest a variety of alternatives for exploring these problems. I hope to encourage you to consider new ways in which people-oriented computer systems might better aid problem solving.
