EDUCATION FORU M Web Enhanced Textbooks In the past I have described in this column issues related to the creation of truly interactive hvpertextbooks, particularly for distribution and use on the Web' . How are we coming along in this regard? Certainly we all notice that more and more publishers are using the W word i n their textbook promotions Information about each new book and all manner of accompanyin g ancillaries---such as transparency masters, PowerPoint slides, answers to exercises, and pictures o f the family dog---can be found by following appropriate (and inappropriate) links from the publisher's home page . Does this add value to textbooks'? The one textbook previewed this time around refers to "We b Added-Value Education" in discussing the resources available at their book's Web site . There can be no question that . access to well-prepared slides that aid in lecture preparation is of great valu e to instructors, as are answers to exercises, lists of possible exam questions, and the like . The Web makes it convenient, to browse through such material and select what is needed (generally leavin g behind the clog pictures . unless they're the best the site has
