EDUCATION FORU M Spreading the Wor d Two different events provided inspiration for this column . One was the fourth annual "Pioneers of Computing" awards ceremony and gala in Bozeman . The other was the arriva l of the LEDA book by Kurt Mehlhorn and Stefan Naher . The first is an annual event designed to publicly recognize and honor those who have contributed fundamental advance s to the technology of computing in conjunction with the local American Computer Museum . LEDA, in an oblique way, is similar : advances and innovations in the science of computing algorithm and data structure research in particular are "recognized" by being implemente d in a practical programming language and made available for public consumption in readil y usable form . In both cases, one might say, the word is being spread . The George R . Stibitz Awar d Bozeman is unique in many ways for a university town . Among other notable things, it ha s (unusual for a small Rocky Mountain town) two world-class museums . One is the Museu m of the Rockies, with a primary focus on dinosaurs ; the other is the American Computer Museum
