One of the most significant advancements to refinery optimization linear programming at Socal is Distributive Recursion. Distributive Recursion, together with Delta/Base modeling, has allowed us to model our refineries in a more realistic manner:- pooling streams in the model where they are, in fact, pooled in the refinery;- shifting refinery operations based on pooled feed qualities;- allowing us to model many refinery non-linearities, previously not modeled.Our refinery LP models are approaching the accuracy of non-linear refinery simulators while retaining the ability to optimize.In this paper, we will discuss the implementation and impact of Distributive Recursion at Socal.
