IEEE COMPUTER SOCIETY MEETIN G "Computer Hardware and Software in the Education of the Deaf" was the topic at a recent meeting of th e Computer Society ' s Washington, D . C ., Chapter . The group met at Gallaudet, the only liberal arts college for th e deaf in the world . Featured speaker was Dr . Donald V . Torr, Director of Educational Technology at Gallaudet College , who explained how the computer is being used to teach the deaf . One of their successes has been a dramatic acceleration in the competency level of their Russian language students . Dr . Torr gave his presentation speaking and signing simultaneously . Dr . Torr also serves as a SIGCAPH Director .
