Zinn, University of Michigan The Michigan Education Research and Information Triad (MERIT) is an incorporated organization which grew out of four years of deliberations by the Michigan Interuniversity Committee on Information Systems (MICIS) o The parent committee (MICIS) includes vice presidents, computing center administrators and educational researchers at the three largest universities in the State: Michigan State, the University of Michigan and Wayne State. Not limited to computer systems, MICIS considers information systems of all kinds; for example, it helped organize the Regional Medical Library Program for this area. MERIT has received funds for a network computing project with support from the Michigan Legislature and the National Science Foundation, and since July 1969 MERIT staff have been engaged in development of a prototype for instructional computer usage in the State. Presently, staff at MSU, U of M and WSU are working cooperatively to develop a computer communications system and associated software to be used on the completed network. Concurrently, through the Associate Directors for applications at the three schools, MERIT seeks to promote effective uses
