Belgiu m paredactuia .ua.ac .be PODS '98 was the 1 7th in the series of the ACM SIGACT-SIGMOD-SIGART Symposiums on Principles of Database Systems . It was held June 1-3, 1998. in Seattle . in conjunction with the ACM SIGMOD International Conference on Management of Data . The Program Committee selected 28 papers out of 119 submissions from 25 countries . There wer e one invited speaker and three invited tutorials . The number of submitted papers was almos t the same as last year . Remarkably, 525 ⢠of the submitted papers were written by newcomers . compared with 3- Ic/c last year . 61% of the accepted papers came from the US . 35% from Europe . Although the acceptance rate of 23% is rather high compared with the other majo r conferences on databases (cfr .http ://wwwis .cs .utwente .nl :8080/ apers/rates .html) . the pro gram committee notes that the quality of PODS submissions tends to be quite high .
