The following paragraphs are excerpts from the Introduction to my dissertation (Parkison, 1980):"This thesis describes a program which permits a person to communicate with a computer in ordinary, unrestricted English. This program has been in use for several years as one component of a computer model of paranoia known as PARRY (Colby, 1975). As part of a study of paranoid thought processes, psychiatrists are invited to interrview and diagnose the computer model via teletype as if it were a human patient."
