Concept Mapping, Mind Mapping and Creativity Documenting the Creative Process for Computer Animators Julie Goldstein Ringling School of Art and Design completion of a specific assignment. At Ringling School of Art and Design, within the curriculum of the C o m p u t e r A n i m a t i o n Department, we feel that it is essential not only to foster creativity within the projects of the students, but also provide students with the skills to harness their creativity as a goal in-and-of itself. Creativity then becomes not only a means to an end, but a tool with the potential to add depth and insight to the production process. Creativity, by its very nature, is a very intangible tool to harness. Thoughts slip by at the most unexpected moments, and are often not d o c u m e n t e d due to circumstance. Providing a structure to harness these elusive gems would seem to be a contradiction to the creative process itself. By recognizing this paradox, we have begun the journey toward knowledge of the nature of the creative process - - a process which may parallel an organic or
