Page 4 Computers, Technology, and Society: Special Projects to Enhance the Curriculum Margaret Miller The Computers and Society course which first entered college curricula in the late 1960's has undergone a major metamorphosis in the last few years. Originally taught to people who had never seen or used a computer (pre micro-computer days), often then evolving into "Computer Literacy" in the early 1980's, today, it is returning, in part, to its original intent: to teach and explore the impact of computer science and technology on the world in which we live. A substantial difference today, however, is that our current students have almost all used computer technology - some in pnrnary or secondary school, others in numerous college classes, many on jobs, and other numerous ways such as using their local ATM machine. With the re-entry of the Computers and Society course into the curriculum, and the strong encouragement of its teaching by the Association of Computing Machinery, once again there are current texts 1 and readers2 offering depth and quality from which to choose. However, in a course such as this one, it is very important for the students to have opportunities which go beyond the text
