REPORT : COMPUTER USAGE TREND S Computer Usage Trend s A Survey of the Impact of Computers at the Secondary Leve l on Higher Educatio n Peter Clivier i Computer Science Progra m Boston Colleg e Chestnut Hill, MA 0216 7 Over the last several years, computer science courses slowly, bu t surely, began to appear in the curricula of many high schools . At first , the courses were business data processing oriented and concentrated o r keypunching, tab equipment and the like . However, with the advent o f minicomputers and machines that were more realistic trcm a budgetar y standpoint, the offerings in many high schools began tc include courses mor e closely akin tc those considered as computer sciences in a university-academic environment . This has important long term significanc e fcr computer educators both at the high school level and at the highe r education level . As computers become more available tc high schools , teachers and administrators will have to develop the skills necessary t o successfully integrate computers into the curriculum . As more and more students enter college with computer background an d experience, colleges will be forced to
