Computer Graphics Education in Czechoslovakia Pavel SIavik Departmep, t of Computer Science Czech Technical University Karlovo ham. 13 121 35 Praha 2 Czechoslovakia There are a large number of educational institutions in the former communist countries providing education to people in the field of computer science and its applications. There are many similarities to western countries (because of the same subject) but there are also some differences derived from conditions specific to these countries. It is possible to show some problems by examining computer graphics education. The easiest way to compare computer graphics education in western countries to the former communist countries would be to compare curricula mechanically and to produce a list of topics which should be included in new curricula in the countries under investigation. We have chosen another approach: the present situation is the result of developments which lasted for many years and was influenced by many factors. We will describe the reasons for the present situation to provide a better understanding.Therefore we give a short outline of the development of computer graphics in Czechoslovakia. This outline can't fully cover all aspects, but it provides information about main trends. The most influential factor was the
