Carol J. Orwant Montgomery College Montgomery County, Maryland Computer tics- Part of Compute Science! Introduction Computer ethics is usually omitted from beginning computer science courses. I have used the framework of Computers and Society to incorporate a variety of computer ethics topics into my computer concept courses at a community college. The courses, Computer Literacy (CS 101) and Computer Concepts (CS 110) include computer science history, hardware, software, applications, and role in society from technical (CS 110) and non-technical (CS 101) perspectives. My approach was to research and assemble material from current cases and to present the controversial issues, highlighting the opposing viewpoints . Students then discussed the cases, and voted on particular aspects of each case with respect to ethicality . After votes were tallied, students presented their reasons for determination of ethical behavior and, as appropriate, ways in which ethical outcomes could be improved . This approach was highly successful according to student evaluations, since current news articles were used and students could form their own opinions and justify their views after listening to opposing sides of the issues .
