COMPUTER ASSISTED INSTRUCTION AT LOS ANGELES CITY COLLEGE V i n GranneU the A P L programs which present the material. For Computer-Assisted-Instruction, the incredible advantage that a group of A P L functions has over A N Y commercial authoring package is flexibifity. As has happened in so many cases, the very presence of A P L tends to widely separate APL-based projects from those using other computing languages, in their ability to accomplish useful work. In any commercial package, the user is fimited to the features provided by its author. In our group of A P L functions, changes or additions requested by the professor-authors can be implemented in minutes by editing the functions. One reason that this group of programg is so outstanding is that, over the years, it has had the input from a large crosssection of the college faculty, nearly all of whom have contributed new ideas. When improvements have appeared, in almost every case the members of the entire group of authors have enthusiastically adopted each improvement for their own lessons. This leaves us with a single set of functions for presenting multiple-choice tutorial lessons in any subject. From the very beginning,
