There was a time when writers wrote texts, designers designed them, and printers printed them. Computers, of course, changed this scenario. Now, an individual can write, design, and publish documents (both paper and electronic documents) in vast quantities. On a small scale, this is called desktop publishing. On a large scale, this is called electronic publishing. The trouble is that very few individuals have the training and the experience to write, design, and print effective and attractive documents all by themselves. Just as there is more to writing than looking for words in a dictionary or the-saurus, so there is more to design than choosing a font from a menu or a color from a palette.
