Despite a plethora of computer applications proposed or implemented in human service settings, it was observed that resistance to automation remains high among practitioners. Such resistance is a critical issue because of the high costs of developing, implementing and maintaining automated systems. The need to find a solution to the resistance problem will increase as human service organizations face increasing demands for accountability. Demands that, it has been suggested, can only be met through the employment of automated systems.
