The study of CAI in Japan is still in its infancy. Electronic companies which produce computers have developed various kinds of hardware which enable various kinds of programs for CAI to now be in use in technical training and drill programs. However, criticism of the use of computers in science education still exists, with the effect that continuing hesitation may be noticed on the part of educators to adopt CAI in science education. This hesitation seems to be based upon the feeling of many educators that, since CAI programming has not yet been fully developed, too premature use of computers in science education might cause some undesirable effects on the students.
