There are several blind Ph .D .s who are working in the computer field or using a computer as a tool in their regula r professional work, There is a very large number of blind people with masters and bachelor degrees . A few years ago w e were able to account for over 500 blind programmers in the world and I estimate that more than half are college graduates . It is therefore a matter of record that many blind persons have successfully completed undergraduate and graduate studie s successfully with at least some computer orientation in their studies . Some schools, such as the Massachusetts Institute o f Technology, have had blind graduate students receive doctors degrees in mathematics and econometrics wherein the compute r was used extensively . In your letter you did not indicate whether or not you have done any extensive programming and therefore I canno t tell if you have enough experience to draw upon to convince people in graduate schools that it is feasible for a blin d person to program a computer . I am sending a copy of this letter to Dr . Warren Germain whose address is given
