Bracket notation has been widely criticized, recently at APL86, as inconsistent and anomalous, and operators and functions have been developed in the new APLs to wipe outat least some uses of brackets. Although Adin Falkoff has valiantly tried to defend them (and Jon McGrew apologetically), brackets clearly need all the friends they can get. This paper has been written to point out again that brackets have more virtues than vices, that they represent a valuable notational convenience that has not yet been fully exploited, and that they could well be exploited to stand for another component of APL on a par with functions and operators.
