Music has been influenced by technical advances throughout history. From catgut to copper wire, tubes to transistors, records to CD's, the marriage of music and technology has remained fairly stable, even though some purists would like a divorce. As the relatively new field of computer science has grown, computer music applications and systems have increased as well. Now music is being used both to illumine the fields of artificial intelligence and cognitive science as well as reap the benefits that research in these fields can offer. A collection of such works can be found in 'Understanding Music With AI'.
