M o s t of Poor R i c h a r d ' s s a y i n g s are original, with a few old saws, w h o s e a u t h o r s are lost in time. The 1988 v e r s i o n is a b o o k of quotations, w i t h i l l u s t r a t i o n s . The q u o t a t i o n s are l i s t e d u n d e r topics, and the author, but u s u a l l y not the work, are g i v e n beneath. The list of q u o t e d great ones is impressive; those most often a p p e a r i n g are B r o o k m a n and Horton. The s e r i o u s r e a d e r and writer, will be e n o r m o u s l y f r u s t r a t e d by this work. T h e r e is a quote by Plato, but w h i c h d i s c o u r s e is it in? Whose translation? What is the c o n t e x t ? The i l l u s t r ~ t i o n s are c r e d i t e d only to a clip art source, and w h i l e one can e a s i l y i d e n t i f y H o g a r t h and T e n n i e l - - w h o are these other p e o p l e ?
