Medical Language Processin g describes the LSP's natura l language processing syste m and its application to th e encoding of semi-structure d medical documents . Thes e documents were discharge summaries and ambulator y care visit reports tha t contained some numeri c fields but also free text areas . Eleven chapters cover topic s including the natura l language processor proper, knowledge representatio n issues, database issues, as wel l as the domain-specific issue s of the medical environment . Various studies concernin g the application of natura l language technology to th e medical domain are reported . Also, appendix materia l closely examines the lexica l classes of the medica l sublanguage and presents sample output from th e system .
