Introduction For many years the Sleeman/Brown text on inteligent tutoring systems was the sole offering in the field. During the past year a number of new ITS texts have been released. Although some of them, (e.g. Wenger, 1987) tie theory to application, many of them are redundant in their focus on the early systems and/or their computer science orientation. Furthermore, existing texts rarely mention the decade of relevant research and development in instructional design and computer-based training. This book changes things.
