Book Reviews Coloured Petri Nets : Basic Concepts, Analysis Methods and Practical Use, Volume One . By Kurt Jensen . Springer-Verlag, 1992 . vii+234 pages . ISBN 0-387-55597-8 . $69 .00 . This is the first of three volumes, scheduled by the author, devoted exclusively to a clas s of Petri nets called Coloured Petri Nets (CP-nets), their theoretical foundations, application s in concurrent systems modeling, and to the description of an accompanying software too l Design/CPN which implements this idea on several popular machine platforms . All thre e volumes, accompanied by the software package from Meta Software Corporation in Cam bridge, Massachusetts, will constitute a magnificent example of the full cycle of developmen t from sound mathematical theory to broad practical applications in a period of approximatel y 15 years . To my best knowledge, this is the most comprehensive set of conceptual and soft ware tools for parallel program development and prototyping . As a justification for thi s statement, I will use an example of the recent 14th International Conference on Application s and Theory of Petri Nets, held in Chicago in June, during which almost 30% of the paper s were devoted to
