Bhandarkar Digital Press, ButterworthHeinemann, Newton, MA, 1996, 328 pages ISBN 1-55558-130-7 (paperback) The book is an excellent and unique presentation of the Digital Alpha architecture, organization, implementation, and applications. It is of particular value and high quality because of its having been written by an insider; Dr. Bhandarkar, while with Digital, was directly involved in the design and development of Alpha and its predecessors. Thus, the reader can benefit from the author's direct experience, understanding, and knowledge of the details of all aspects of the Alpha architecture and its implementations. Since its appearance in the early nineties and to this day in 1996, Alphabased microprocessors are still the fastest in existence on the market. Alpha imp l e m e n t a t i o n s -have been used in numerous computing systems of all sizes all over the world (including this rcviewer's University). This is also one of the reasons of the book's usefulness and importance: it gives the reader all information one would be inter- ested to know about Alpha (and was afraid to ask!). The
