Over the past two decades, metaphor has grown to occupy a central position in artificial intelligence research 2. In particular, natural language processing has set practical goals for understanding the ubiquitous metaphorical expressions in our daily language. George Lakoff and Mark Johnson wrote a provocative book 7 in 1980 on conventional metaphor that has further fueled research interest on conventional metaphor in computational linguistics. The present book is an effort in developing and applying a computational model for processing conventional metaphor.
