Biometrics ' is the science and technology of authentication (i.e. establishing the identity of an individual) by measuring the person's physiological or behavioral features' ( Wikipedia ). Biometrics, in other words, is the application of identification through iris scanners, facial analyzers, handprint authentication, as well as voice recognition. The countries that currently have a Biometric National Identity Card are the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Italy, Greece, and Spain ( The European Experience, Parliament of Canada ). Currently, Canada and the United States are experiencing large debate over the use of a National Identity Card. One view is that the use of the Biometrics National Identity Card will prove to a high degree of certainty that a person is who they say they are. However, with the advent of such a new card, terrorist penetration and identity theft would still remain a challenge. In the United States, many government officials have praised the use of biometrics as a safer method for facilitating travel and commerce, as well as lessening the possibility of identity theft. Up until now, the United States has not approved the use of the card. Debates continue to spark a renewed interest in the issue of
