Biometrics ' is the science and technology of authentication (i.e. establishing the identity of an individual) by measuring the person's physiological or behavioral features' ( Wikipedia ). Biometrics, in other words, is the application of identification through iris scanners, facial analyzers, handprint authentication, as well as voice recognition. The countries that currently have a Biometric National Identity Card are the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Italy, Greece, and Spain ( The European Experience, Parliament of Canada ). Currently, Canada and the United States are experiencing large debate over the use of a National Identity Card. One view is that the use of the Biometrics National Identity Card will prove to a high degree of certainty that a person is who they say they are. However, with the advent of such a new card, terrorist penetration and identity theft would still remain a challenge. In the United States, many government officials have praised the use of biometrics as a safer method for facilitating travel and commerce, as well as lessening the possibility of identity theft.
