In short, for quick, easy and simple graphics J offers a very useful tool to its prograininers for free. I wish that many APL vendors (like APL2000 or APL68000) suppfied such a tool with their APL, too. On the other hand, the package fails short for more subtle or more powerfid modifications of the basic graphics. Several times we cmdd only create a rough equivalent of our benchmark graphs, but not as similar as we wanted to. In particular we felt that more control over symbol-type, symbol-size, line-size, linetype and patterns is needed. The previous paragraphs report several more options that would be useful to implement. We were impressed (not for the first time) with how responsive the J people are to user comments. We found a few small bugs and within weeks after reporting them, we received a new file called j z p l o t . ±j s, where these bugs were corrected. We were also promised that many of our remarks would be dealt with in the next versionJ 4.05. Comparing the J graphics with Rain [Bat97] reveals that J graphics are very easy to create and specify but are currently rather fimited in
