An Operating Systems Projec t Angela Go h Division of Computer Technolog y Nanyang Technological Universit y Singapore Abstrac t An operating systems project which is part of a n introductory course in operating systems i s described . The project, which emphasizes o n process management within operating systems , was implemented on the Motorola 68000 Singl e Computer Board . In order to complete the work , the students were required to integrat e knowledge gained from other courses . based exercises. At the same time, however , there are many constraints faced by lecturers in this subject area . It is ofte n difficult to devise projects which can b e completed in a limited time . Projec t development frequently takes plac e concurrently with lectures . This implies tha t there is hardly enough time to assimilat e the concepts taught and therefore, expectations for any project will have to be adjusted accordingly . The number o f students on the course may be so large tha t computing resources to undertake an y sizable project may be prohibitive. This refers not only to hardware but also t o software.
