The product form of the inverse is invariably used in the current mathematical programming systems. However, the inverse can also be represented in an additive form and the additive form has some very interesting properties. Among these is a delightful symmetry by which it's as easy to update a row as a column (the product form works well only in updating columns). In fact, it's easy to update single matrix elements.
