The Ada Application Project 2851 is a major Ada software development effort. At the end of 1993, over 1,100,000 lines of source code, of which 1,040,000 lines are Ada, had been written for the program. T h e program was developed in accordance with M I L - S T D - 2 1 6 7 . Because the client specified the use o f Ada to keep the system from being platformdependent, no customer resistance needed to be overcome. The large system was to be incrementally developed and consisted of the following major elements: I' T h e Standard Simulator Data Base (SSDB), a large highly structured database of cartographic and raster data, supported by c o m m o n database access routines. M a n y stand-alone main subprograms that performed standard functions on the database. A system executive which controlled the scheduling and execution o f these standalone programs.
