This was part of China's bid to be the site of the year 200 0 Olympic Games . "Openness" is a theme that modern China wants to stress, especially in the economic sphere. The large variety of street vendors, small shops, owner-operated businesses , independent factories, non-government agricultura l activities, and other free-spirited enterprise woul d warm the heart of the most dedicated libertarian . The centuries-old spirit of Chinese entrepreneurialism was not extinguished by th e events of the past fifty years . Like a sleeping dragon, this spirit is awakening all over China , breathing flames of energy into a Chinese econom y predicted to grow at a 7% rate over the next te n years, and currently concerned about a 15 % inflation rate . The financial potential has no t escaped the notice of U.S . software moguls .
