Ada is the responsibility of W G 9 (convened by Dr. Robert Mathis, an independent consultant), and C O B O L is the responsibility of WG4 (convened by Ms. Ann Wallace, IBM). Both Working Groups are under ISO/IEC J T C l / S C 2 2 . To foster communication between the standardization efforts, each group has appointed a liaison to the other. Mr. Don Nelson (Tandem Corp.) is the liaison from W G 4 to WG9, and I am the liaison from WG9 to WG4. The ISO C O B O L standard is in the process of being revised, with approval and publication expected in 1997. The revision includes some significant enhancements, probably the most publicized of which is support for object-oriented programming.
