In addition, it is an integral part of business, government, an d even everyday affairs . Anyone who trains in statistics, who will handle data , or who will work with people who handle data, must have a certain minimum competency in the use of the computer . The purpose of introducing and utilizing computer-related idea s is basically the psychological one of getting the student involve d with and thinking about mathematics . . . The Panel has more tha n adequate anecdotal evidence that the injection of computing wil l provide very strong motivation for the student . A second reaso n is the ubiquity of the computer in our present society and th e need for the students to understand its potentialities and 1 limitations in order to function as citizens and employees .
