I was with IBM's Federal Systems Division from 1965 until it was purchased by Loral in 1994. I a m n o w with that same group as a Loral employee, and on formal leave of absence from IBM. Therefore, I a m not an unbiased reviewer of I B M products. O n the other hand, m y career as an algorithm developer on military projects has always considerably distanced m e from the I B M commercial mainstream. Throughout m y career I have been more of a customer of I B M commercial products (including A P L ) than a developer.
