FROM THE EDITOR A Mixed Offering for our Readers Patricia Galvis-Assmus Computer Graphics Editor We welcome the new editor of the VisFiles column, Kwan-Liu Ma. In his inaugural column, he discusses the current and future direction of the visualization field. I am delighted to have his contributions and look forward to a long association. This issue also brings us thoughts on advancing 3D as a communications format and a view of constructionist artificial intelligence. Additionally, an examination of one of my favorite aspects of our annual conference, The Guerilla Studio, gives us a view of not only how it works but also an insight into how it all comes together. I would also like to point out the value of our including the minutes from the Executive Committee meetings. I know that sometimes it is easy to overlook this type of information. The reporting of the minutes, however, provides us with news and updates on issues of import to our field and our organization. Another very important part of this issue is the slate of candidates for three positions within SIGGRAPH. These are Director for Chapters, Director for Communications and Director at Large.
