Since late 1985, the Human Factors Society (HFS) Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Standards Committee has been working to construct a framework for the development of guidelines and standards in the area of software ergonomics (which includes most software-defined aspects of human-computer interaction) in a manner which is consistent with the professional standards of the society.
