W O R K S H O P REPORT: L O W P O W E R DESIGN 1994 International Workshop on Low Power Design Massoud Pedram and Bryan Preas The 1994 International Workshop on Low Power Design, held on April 24 to 27, 1994, at the Inn at Napa Valley in Napa, California, was an exceptional success. More than 190 people from industry and academia attended this workshop which was sponsored by the ACM SIGDA and the IEEE CAS. The workshop addressed topics in the circuit design and CAD realms, from the perspective of enabling the low power system design process. It promoted interaction among professionals working in all areas of design and test of low power electronic systems and provided a forum for presenting and discussing the latest developments and future trends. Mr. Deo Singh, Manager of the MIPS/WATT division of Intel Corp., gave the keynote address, "Prospects for Low Power Microprocessor Design." In his talk, he described the components of a modern mobile PC and their power consumption, enumerated issues relating to low power microprocessor design, packaging and power benchmarking and summarized the potential impact of voltage scaling, process scaling and low power design techniques.
