P. PRAVE Farbwerke Hoechst AG., Frankfurt am Main, Germany Received for publication 31 January 1967 A semiautomatic turbidimetric. test for the assay of the antibiotic moenomycin has been developed in our laboratories. (K. H. Wallhausser et al., Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy-1965, p. 734, 1966; G. Huber et al., Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy-1965, p. 737, 1966; E. v. Wasielewski, R. Muschaweck, and E. Schutze, Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy-1965, p.743, 1966). This test, which is carried out with Micrococcus pyogenes var. aureus 209 P, is described below. Culture media. The agar medium for culture of the test organism is Antibiotic Medium 2 (Difco): beef extract, 1.5 g; yeast extract, 3.0 g; peptone, 6.0 g; and agar, 15.0 g. All components are Difco products, and the medium is prepared in 1 liter of distilled water as described by the manufacturer. The nutrient medium for the turbidimetric assay is Antibiotic Medium 3 (Difco): beef extract, 1.5 g; yeast extract, 1.5 g; peptone, 5.0 g; dextrose, 1.0 g; K2HPO4, 3.68 g; KH2PO4, 1.32 g; and NaCl, 3.5 g. This medium is also prepared in 1 liter of distilled water as described by the manu- facturer. Test organism. The test organism, M. pyogenes var. aureus 209...
