FP can be transferred to strains lacking (FP-) from those possessing it (FP+), with varying efficiency depending on the particular FP+ strain used. Unlike the analogous agent F in Escherichia coli, FP is refractory to acridines and metal salts and has not been shown to mutate to a stable Hfr form. The segregation of FP in crosses has been studied and its influence on the segregation of other markers demonstrated.
