Better detection techniques, a consumer concerned about the quality of the food he eats and the environment in which he lives, better epidemiological techniques and reporting-as evidenced by the contributions of the U.S. Epidemiology Unit of the Communicable Disease Center in Atlanta, Georgia-are bringing into focus the multitude of problems that need to be resolved in order to eradicate food-borne diseases. Of particular interest is the importance given to the problem on a worldwide basis. Chapters by recognized investigators cover adequately the historical, morphological, clinical, and epidemiological aspects of trichinosis. To the food technologist who is searching for control methods to eradicate trichina from the food supply, Dr. Steele's chapter on epidemiology and control is very valuable. This book will be a useful asset to the physician, the public health educator, the agriculturist, the regulatory official, and those interested in controlling the trichinal problem in the world.
