It owes its existence to the initiative of one man, Amariah Brigham, Superintendent of the State Hospital at Utica, N. Y. He did not call himself the Editor; the Journal, he indicated, would be “edited by the officers of the Asylum.” During its first 50 years the Journal was the property of the Utica State Hospital. In 1894 it was purchased by the Association and became its official publication. A 3-man editorial committee, consisting of Dr. Edward Cowles, Dr. Henry W. Hurd and Dr. Richard S.
