Abstract
In response to decreasing numbers of applicants to the authors' psychiatry residency program, the University of Toronto initiated a novel recruitment strategy in 1994: The Psychiatry Institute for Medical Students. The institute is a weeklong summer program for 15 first- or second-year medical students. The institute provides exposure to a wide variety of subspecialties in psychiatry organized into theme days and an active social program. Evaluations by the attendees have been uniformly positive. In the past 3 years, 50% of the attendees have entered a psychiatric residency program.Preview Only. This article cannot be rented because we do not currently have permission from the publisher.
