Reaction π d → p π n in the Δ resonance region

Reaction π d → p π n in the Δ resonance region Differential cross sections for the reaction H 2 ( π ± , p π ± ) n at incident pion momentum 340 MeV/ c in a kinematically complete experiment are reported for eleven angle pairs. At neutron momenta ≲ 40 MeV/ c the cross section peaks sharply and is described well by an impulse approximation corrected for entrance channel effects; the ratio of π + to π - cross section is approximately 9 to 1. For neutron momenta ≳ 40 MeV/ c , the data are well fit by a combination of a J π = 2 + N Δ dibaryon resonance amplitude and an impulse approximation background; in some cases the ratio of π + to π - cross section is 1 to 1. NUCLEAR REACTIONS H 2 ( π ± , p π ± ) n , p = 340 MeV/ c ; measured d 3 σ d p p d Ω p d Ω π ; model with DWIA, p n ≲ 40 MeV/ c ; model with J π = 2 + T = 1 N Δ dibaryon resonance, p n ≳ 40 MeV/ c . http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Physical Review C American Physical Society (APS)

Abstract

Differential cross sections for the reaction H 2 ( π ± , p π ± ) n at incident pion momentum 340 MeV/ c in a kinematically complete experiment are reported for eleven angle pairs.
