INTRODUCTION T HE mechanism of energy transfer from one con- stituent to the other in solids, solutions, and gaseous mixtures has created considerable interest dur- ing recent years. Until very recently these discussions" 2 were confined mostly to the inorganic phosphors in general, and alkali halides in particular. Along with the inorganic atoms and molecules, more than a few experi- mental results on benzene and benzene derivatives are also reported in the literature.3-6
