China 2018, 13(2): 174–181 DOI 10.3868/s030-007-018-0013-3 SPECIAL THEME Luca Maria Scarantino A number of observations concerning current trends in philosophy will be th addressed in this article insofar as they relate to the upcoming 24 World Congress of Philosophy (WCP). As the Secretary General of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies (FISP) and the Chair of the Executive Committee of the Congress, I am pleased to add my own reflections and observations to those of other contributors in this volume, hoping this will reflect the cooperative efforts and friendship that have united us in the course of preparation for this Congress. A WCP takes place once every five years and cannot be thought of in isolation from the concurrent philosophical developments at the given time in which it is held. It has the ambition to provide a complex picture of current concerns and orientations of scholarly philosophical debates, thereby inviting us all to reflect on the sense of our work and on its cultural and social reach.
